Try 5 Minutes of Meditation a Day – Start Right Now

During a live broadcast of “Good Morning America” in the spring of 2004, ABC newscaster Dan Harris had a very frightening, very powerful and very public panic attack. That event became the springboard for years of research, reporting and a personal quest to find a way to control his anxiety.

In the end, he found meditation. The science compelled him, but the experience of the practice convinced him. He eventually wrote the book “10% Happier,” in which he explained his journey and the research that brought him to the conclusion that meditation, specifically mindfulness meditation, can be used to tame anxiety and strengthen the brain. Harris has since collaborated to develop an app, also named “10% happier”, providing guided meditations and lessons on mindfulness.

If you are new to meditation or if you have tried to meditate, but found it frustrating, take a few minutes to watch and listen to this guided meditation by Sharon Salzberg, introduced by Dan Harris. Salzberg is a meditation teacher and co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society at Barre Massachusetts. Maybe it will convince you to add a 5-10 minute-a-day practice of mindfulness meditation to your schedule. It is free, not terribly time consuming and just might change your day for the better.
